Description
The Cabin Story and Description
Dream of going where the sky is clear, the air is pure, and nature is at your doorstep? Do you seek the peace and solace of open spaces, and the grandeur of majestic mountains? Do you enjoy brilliant sunsets, the sounds of a babbling stream, and the aromatic smell of pine and sagebrush heating under a lazy sun? Or are you just looking for a place between Yellowstone National Park and Cody, Wyoming. If so, then Doc’s Cabin is for you.
Nestled in the scenic Wapiti Valley of Northwestern Wyoming, Doc’s cabin offers you the unique opportunity to both sightsee and experience nature by Yellowstone. Summer activities are almost unlimited in the valley. Horseback riding, hiking, fishing, photography and river rafting top the list. Come for a week of relaxation or use the cabin as a hub for recreation or visiting Yellowstone and Cody.
Doc’s cabin, situated on Whit Creek (a Northfork River tributary), was built by Dr. Millard J. Smith as a small hunting lodge and headquarters for hunting trips to the top of Table Mountain. The ' cabin' actually consists of two cabins (see tour page) situated on 10 acres of stream and hillside. One cabin serves as the main living quarters and the other as a bunkhouse guest cabin. The main cabin is fully equipped with a 3/4 bath, a kitchen with wood burning stove, dining room table, two queen beds, and a small library. The cabin has hot running water and electricity, but no telephone or television. Cooking may be done on the woodburning stove or with a hot plate. The bunkhouse guest cabin offers a large sitting area and sleeps up to six people (one queen, a bunk bed, and a rollaway).
This type of setting allows you to customize your lodging your way. The main cabin can be the parent's headquarters while the large bunkhouse guest cabin can be the kid's hideaway. Another option allows you to share the Wyoming outdoors with friends, as you save on lodging (both cabins are offered at a single unit price).

The cabin is located along the Rocky Mountain front range in northwestern Wyoming (see left). Wyoming is nicknamed the equality state, but there is nothing equal about the Rocky Mountains. The Wyoming Rockies provide some of the greatest scenery in the continental United States. In addition, Wyoming is one of the last undeveloped frontiers of the wild west. The cabin is accessed from Highway 14/16/20 between Cody and Yellowstone Park. Doc's Cabin is ideally located to both experience the grandeur and solitude of the Rockies from your doorstep and day trip to Yellowstone.
