Description
Shadowlawn Vacation Rental is a Victorian home which stands just a short stroll away from beautiful Narragansett Town Beach in Washington/South County, Rhode Island.
When built in 1887, the 20-room, three-story New England home towered as one of Narragansett's true mansions. It still remains a landmark, and its turn-of-the century prominence has been acknowledged with inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
You will enjoy the traditional entry hall and a covered front porch overlooking a lovely perennial garden that blooms the entire summer. A spacious deck on the back of the house overlooks a second perennial garden. While beds are supplied with comforters, pillows, and shams, guests are asked to bring their own sheets, pillowcases, and towels.
You may want to bring a fishing pole and golf clubs. There are 10 public golf courses within 20 miles of Shadowlawn and several nearby venues for fishing. If you want to go deep-sea fishing, you can rent a charter at Point Judith in the Village of Galilee and set sail for tuna and cod, or you can surf-cast for blues and stripers off of the pier at Narragansett Town Beach. If you prefer fresh-water fish, there also are several nearby ponds and rivers ready to lure you in.
If you wander farther afield, Block Island is just a 30-minute ferry ride away, and Newport, the mansion-filled yachting capital of the east coast, is just a 15-minute drive. Shadowlawn is just 30 miles from Connecticut's beautiful Stonington Village and Mystic, Connecticut's historic seaport and aquarium. Connecticut also offers North America's largest gambling house, the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut, or simply go to the nearby Mohegan Sun Casino.
Other oceanside recreational options include water skiing, sea kayaking, sailing, canoeing, motor boating, surfing (wind, body, or board), snorkeling, and scuba diving. Landlubbers may stick to hiking, biking, and horseback riding if they wish.
